WHY GENTLE CLEANING & EXFOLIATING IS VITAL FOR YOUR SKIN
- 07 Jan, 2020

Find out why gentle cleansing and exfoliating are important steps in your beauty ritual.
Gentle Cleansing
Now is the time to use a gentle cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its vital oil barrier. Harsh cleansers will only add to your frustration of dry skin that looks older. You will also want to avoid hot water when washing your face, instead stick with tepid or lukewarm water.
Oily skin is the skin type with more sebum secreted from hair glands spread on the skin’s exterior that creates a barrier which keeps moisture loss in control. However, this sebum being oily also attracts dirt and dust from the environment, thereby clogging pores and making skin dirty. This oily grime does not get cleaned by simply using a soap. Either a cleansing cream or a gentle face wash will fulfill the need. These ‘washing cosmetics’ do a great job in removing excess sebum, dirt and grime from the skin keeping the natural moisture intact. Gentle facial cleansers can be used daily even twice if you are constantly exposed to the outdoors.

Exfoliating
Exfoliating your skin is an important step of cleansing as dead skin cells get deposited every fortnight with skin turnover and are not removed by regular cleansing with a soap or a face wash. Using a scrub, peel, or mask 2-3 times a week will slough away dead skin while polishing the surface of your skin. This process also increases cellular turnover and allows your other skin care products to penetrate more easily, giving them the opportunity to be more effective. Generally scrubbing is done once a week or at the time of facials. However, a good mild scrub can be used daily too.

Tips to cleanse & scrub your skin
· Avoid touching your face with your fingers or leaning your face on objects that collect sebum and skin residue like your phone. Touching your face can spread the bacteria that cause pores to become inflamed and irritated. To keep bacteria at bay, wash your hands before applying anything to your face, such as treatment creams or makeup.
· Hot and humid conditions also call for deep pore cleansing, especially for oily skin, in order to keep the pores free of clogged oil and dirt. After washing or cleansing the skin, cleansing grains or a scrub should be used. Cleansing grains can be mixed with a skin tonic and rubbed gently on the skin, using a circular motion.
· Ready-to-use scrubs are also available, which can help. The grains or scrub particles should be washed off with plenty of water. It is important to rinse well with water in order to get rid of all residues and sweat deposits.
· Cleansing of the skin at night, before bedtime is even more important. The dirt and pollutants, which have been deposited on the skin during the day, must be removed. This not only helps to reduce surface oil, but also protects the skin from pimples, spots and other eruptions.
